Descaling a traditional coffee machine is a relatively simple task that can save you headaches later on. Regular descalling of your coffee machine can increase the life-span of your machine, preventing costly maintenance later on. Regardless of what machine you own or how often it is used, descalling will prevent breakdowns and ensure your machine continues to make great coffee. How often you should descale depends on how much your machine is used, but once per month is generally recomended.
First, empty your coffee machines water tank and refill it until three quarters full of water and then pour 50ml of Clean Machine Triple Action Descaler. Place an empty cup or container under the coffee outlet and steam wand to catch the waste water that will be produced.
Turn your machine on and start the brew cycle to get the water/descaler solution to flow through the machine. Turn the cycle on and off three or four times during this process and leave it to allow the solution to sit for 10 – 15 minutes each time. If you have a steam wand or frother, allow the solution to run through it for approximately 30 seconds.
Discard the solution once the solution has run through your machine.
Repeat steps 1 and 2 twice with fresh water.
